Our crisis policy

If you mention self-harm, suicide, abuse, or other serious safety concerns in your conversations, our system may flag it.

When that happens, the moderation team reviews the conversation to make sure you're safe. We may reach out to check on you and connect you with professional help.

This is not about judging you or getting you in trouble. This is about making sure you're okay and that you have access to the right support.

PersonDesk is peer support

PersonDesk is not therapy. Our listeners are trained volunteers, not licensed therapists or medical professionals.

We're here to listen, to care, and to support you. But we can't diagnose, prescribe, or provide medical treatment.

If you need professional mental health care, we'll help you find it. But we are not a replacement for therapy or medical advice.

What to do if you're in crisis

  1. 1If you're in immediate danger, call emergency services (112 anywhere in Nigeria, or 767 in Lagos) or go to the nearest hospital.
  2. 2If you're having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, contact a crisis helpline. They're available 24/7 and trained to help.
  3. 3If you're experiencing abuse, reach out to a domestic violence organization. They can help you find safety and support.
  4. 4If you need someone to talk to right now, start a conversation on PersonDesk. We'll listen and help you find the right resources.

You're not alone
